Hello NCCCSPA Members!
I am happy to report that the Executive Board met for the planning retreat for our upcoming conference in Asheville, NC, this fall from November 7-9th and we have many exciting things in store for you this year.
I would like to begin by congratulating our 2018 Johnny Underwood Legacy Scholarship winner, Mary Gourley! Not only is Mary our scholarship winner, she will also be presenting a poster in our new poster presentation category. We are scheduled to have roughly 10 posters and presenters for this category. The topics range from mentoring research to addressing food insecurity. This poster presentation addition to the conference is a way to increase the information we are providing to you and we are excited about it!
Now, on to other important stuff...
Our theme for 2018 will be [Re]Innovation: Rethinking the Basics for Student Success. We are scheduled to have some excellent presentations on Psychogenic Seizures: How Childhood Trauma/Abuse Affects the Brain, Navigating the Racial Landscape: Advancements in Thought on Racial Politics and Methods for Inclusion in The College Classroom, Addressing Title IX on Campus, and Differentiated Instruction in Higher Education. I am working on the conference program and hope to have it available once all of our presenters are confirmed. Keep an eye on the website!
Finally, I have been honored to be part of the Executive Board for some years now. The 2018 conference marks my second and final year as conference chair. I have watched this organization grow and cannot express how fulfilling this experience has been. I urge you to consider getting involved with the Executive Board. All new members are mentored and helped every step of the way by more seasoned board members. This is an amazing organization, so if you are interested, please consider giving back by volunteering.
Anyway, I cannot wait to see you in Asheville in November!
